Emulsion v0.6.1

0.6.0 made the decode fast enough that the resolution you work at stopped being a frame-budget question. So both viewport resolutions move to what they should have been once it was: you work at the frame's own size, and a drag shows you something close to what it settles to.

Changed

  • The working resolution is Full. It shipped at half the long edge — a quarter of the pixels — which is a quality ceiling on everything downstream of it rather than a preview setting: the clean render is the one you stop and judge by. At full resolution the frame is decoded through the demosaic 0.6.0 moved onto the graphics card, which is the picture that release's Changed note measured.
  • The drag preview is half resolution, not an eighth, and it stores its frames at half precision. A preview two stops off the frame it settles to is a different picture rather than a coarser one, and it is the eighth-resolution frame the old precision default was chosen against — at that size the frame is bound by the number of passes rather than by what they move, so precision could not reach it either way. At this one it can.
  • An upgrade keeps the resolution you were running at. A settings file written before this preference was stored comes back at half, which is what the build that wrote it ran at; only a fresh install takes the new default.

Fixed

  • Performance's collapsed title bar named the old defaults. It states them itself, because a collapsed module has no live reading to show yet, and the string went stale when the defaults moved. It is a test now.
